6/30/2024 June 7on7 UpdatesThe skill players completed a very successful 7on7 campaign in June. This schedule was by far the most ambitious in terms of travel and overall number of events that we have taken as a program. The players and coaches handled the schedule extremely well. We learned a lot, competed well, and definitely improved throughout the month of June. When all was said and done, the team advanced to the championship game in 3 out of 4 tournaments, won 1 championship, and finished with an overall record of 19-4-1. Zone6ix 7on7 NJ Tournament We captured the Zone6ix/NJ Gridiron New Jersey 7on7 Tournament Championship on June 15th. The day was highlighted by a 21-20 win over league rival DePaul. In this game, the team fell behind 20-8 before rallying with a couple of late scores in the final 2 minutes of play to secure the win. The play of the game was made by 2026 WR Hunter Watson in an incredible diving catch in the endzone to tie the game. On the next play 2026 QB Tyler Bell found 2025 WR DJ Brown for the go-ahead conversion.
Lehigh University 7on7 & Big Man Challenge
On June 29th we completed our 7on7 tour with a trip to Lehigh University. This was the largest travel group as we entered 2 separate teams into the 7on7 and brought several additional OL/DL for the big man challenge totaling over 45 players in the event. On the field the teams once again fared well. The "Maroon" team steamrolled through pool play with a 4-0 record. In the playoffs, the Marauders advanced all the way to the championship game once again. In that game, the team fell behind early to Gonzaga (DC) by several scores. A late rally was thwarted when a 2 point conversion to tie fell short with under a minute to play. The team finished 6-1 on the day. 6/4/2024 Marauders on a Mission
The next event that the team supported was the 9th Annual AngelaCARES Senior Citizen Prom held on May 31st, 2024 at Saint Peter's University. This large event was a hit with Senior Citizens in Jersey City and beyond, and all present appreciate the player's interaction and care. Players welcomed the seniors upon arrival, greeted them at check-in, and helped them to their seats for the event. The next collaboration this spring was with Jersey City's Camp Liberty. The camp is run by a local non-profit called the Educational Arts Team and sits on 5 acres of land just between Prep's campus and Cochrane Stadium in Liberty State Park. The camp hosts close to 400 campers every summer, and for the past 2 years the camp staff has greatly appreciated Prep football players donating their time to ready the camp site for the summer influx! This year players assisted the camp with playground cleanup, weeding, and spreading mulch, as well as setting up tables and benches to construct the lunch area. Lastly, the team has partnered with the Hoboken Community Center pantry. The facility is located on Washington St. in Hoboken at the site of the old Hoboken-North Hudson YMCA. Players volunteered on several evenings throughout the spring to help organize, package and distribute food at the pantry. 7/12/2023 Senior Kayaking TripFootball seniors and coaches embarked on an amazing sunset tour in the Hudson River. Thanks to Jersey City's own Urban Paddle and owner, football alum Kevin Murray, '03. This memorable experience was a unique team-building event that all who attended will remember forever.
6/5/2023 Clean Up at Camp LibertyPrep football players, parents, and coaches traveled over to Liberty State Park's Camp Liberty to help setup for this summer's round of camps. This community service included cleaning up camp grounds, building benches and picnic tables, and weeding tennis courts. A description from camp liberty's website: Often referred to as "the hidden gem” of Jersey City, EdArts sits on 5 acres of land and is a place of contrast: a suburban camp in an urban setting. A fifty-year old institution serving Jersey City students, youth, families, and educators, EdArts delivers over 300 school-based art education programs and enrolls over 400 campers through our “Camp Liberty” summer program. EdArts engages young people with arts-based programs that connect creativity with critical thinking in order to stimulate personal growth and academic achievement by making their learning experience more meaningful. The arts provide powerful tools for children to achieve academic success, increase self-esteem, and are at the center of all EdArts programs. We believe all young people should have the opportunity to think, create, reflect, and be heard within a community of engaged learners. |
