10/25/2024 Prep vs Pope John Recap (Senior Day) On a wild and record setting Friday night at Caven Point, the Marauders beat the Lions of Pope John 58-47. Before the game began, Prep honored their seniors during their annual Senior Day ceremonies. The game began with the Marauders scoring on the first play from scrimmage. Tyler Bell threw it 75 yards to Andres Perez to take the early 7-0 lead. The rest of the first quarter saw the Lions and Marauders trade touchdowns with one another. Prep’s touchdown featured Ty’ire Clark receiving a 15 yard touchdown from Tyler Bell, along with a successful two-point conversion. At the end of the first quarter, Prep led Pope John 15-13.
The fourth quarter started with a Pope John turnover, thanks to a Kyle Wise interception. Prep would take advantage of the turnover with a 26 yard touchdown on a quarterback run from Tyler Bell, and retook the lead 44-40. After the Lions scored another touchdown, Prep responded yet again with a 33 yard touchdown from Tyler Bell to Hunter Watson. The Marauders would recover a surprise onside kick after the touchdown, and Tyler Bell threw it to Christian Cruz from 22 yards out to seal the game for Prep. In addition, Bell's pass to Cruz would be his sixth of the night, setting a school record for most touchdown passes thrown in a game. Prep improves to 4-4 on the season, and the Marauders next game will be on November 1 where they will host Don Bosco at 7PM at Caven Point. Senior DJ Brown received a special honor before the Pope John game. The Super Football Conference recognizes one player from each team as a nominee for the Steve DiGregorio Young Man of the Year Award. According to information released by the SFC: "The SDYMOY focuses on commitment to community service, strong character, selflessness before selfishness, and the positive contributions that you have made to your community, your school and your team culture. From the 114 nominees, a selection committee will choose 8 divisional winners and 1 SFC Young Man of the Year winner to represent the entire conference. "
10/18/2024 Prep vs DePaul Catholic RecapThe Marauders traveled to Paterson, New Jersey for the Zone6ix Classic on a Thursday night. Despite the hot start, the Marauders fell to DePaul Catholic 54-21.
The game started out with a fumble on the opening kickoff that was recovered by Prep. The Marauders responded right away as Tyler Bell connected with Andres Perez once again for a 10 yard touchdown. Prep converted the two-point conversion, and led 8-0 early in the first quarter. Unfortunately for Prep, it was the only lead of the night. DePaul went on to score the next 34 points in the first half. Towards the end of the first half Tyler Bell and Andres Perez did connect for another touchtown, this time from 17 yards. However, DePaul responded with a touchdown of their own to end the half and went into halftime up 41-15. The third quarter featured another Prep touchdown from Tyler Barksdale on a 2 yard run, but the Marauders could not convert the two-point conversion and DePaul still led 41-21. That would be the last score for the Marauders, as DePaul scored the last 13 points and won the game 54-21. Prep falls to 3-4 on the season, and the Marauders next game will be on October 25 where they will host Pope John XXIII at 7PM at Caven Point. 10/5/2024 Prep vs Seton Hall Prep Recap The Marauders returned home to Caven Point and picked up their third win of the season with a score of 35-14 over Seton Hall Prep. The Prep defense headlined the game with three forced turnovers, two interceptions and a forced fumble, on a picture perfect Saturday afternoon.
A momentum swinging play began the third quarter, as Logan Graham had an interception at the Seton Hall goal line and returned it all the way into Seton Hall territory. Prep’s offense would respond to the turnover with back to back touchdown drives. Tyler Bell had two touchdown passes in those drives, one to Andres Perez and the other to Hunter Watson. The Marauders converted on both two point conversions, and took a 28-14 lead into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter featured another turnover by the Prep defense, as Justin Gonzalez had a 25 yard interception return for the last score of the game.
Prep improves to 3-3 on the season, and the Marauders will have their bye next week. The next game for the Marauders will be on October 17 where they will play DePaul Catholic at 6:30PM at Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, NJ. |
