2/2/2024 Alumni Transfer Portal Movement
The NCAA transfer portal has been scorching hot over the last few years as new rules went into effect giving players more freedom to transfer between all levels. SPP Alumni have definitely taken advantage and have found plenty of new homes. We'll try to outline the most recent transfers that occurred this winter below.
The biggest name to make a move so far this offseason was Duke graduate transfer RJ Oben, '19. Shortly after entering the portal, RJ announced his commitment to Notre Dame (Notre Dame signs transfer defensive end R.J. Oben - SI.com). RJ also joined former Prep & Notre Dame QB Brandon Wimbush, '15, on The MOGL Podcast 44: Do What's Best for You, which aired a couple of weeks ago.
RJ's younger brother, Andre Oben, also hit the portal this winter. Andre made the move after two years and a coaching change at Purdue and eventually committed to Monmouth University where he will join his class of 2022 Prep classmate Bryce Rooks.
Fordham LB Marc Pretto, '22 had a highly productive sophomore season with 75 tackles, 7.5 TFLs, and a forced fumble before deciding to hit the portal this winter. After garnering several offers, Marc made the decision to enroll at Northern Illinois.
Another class of 2022 sophomore, Landers Green, was also in the portal this winter. The 6'3 185 WR was a 2nd-Team All-Liberty League selection for Union College after playing in 11 games and averaging over 60 yards receiving per game. Green's season stats totaled 41 receptions for 663 yards and 4 TDs. In January, Landers committed to Eastern Illinois University.
Stan Dennis II, '19 also hit the portal this winter. Stan has been a 3x Academic All-Big Ten Selection (2023, 2022, 2021). At the end of January, Stan committed to Sacred Heart University where he will play next fall alongside several other Prep grads, including a trio of 2021 classmates in Jordan Campbell, Ethan Rodriguez, and Evan Scribner.
